Cerebro-spinal Meningitis.
Nine cases were notified during the year, (one in Streatham,.
five in Tooting, and three in Wandsworth), compared with threein
1912, and five in 1911.
Seven of these cases proved not to be Cerebro-spinal Meningitis,
and of these four died, three from Tubercular Meningitis, and one
from Malignant Disease. The remaining two cases notified died,
one of Cerebro-spinal Meningitis, and one of Posterior basic
Meningitis.
In London 145 cases of this disease were notified during the
year, compared with 105 in 1912.
21 deaths were registered as having been caused by Meningitis,
two in Clapham, nine in Streatham, five in Tooting, and five in
Wandsworth, compared with 21 in 1912.
Seven of these were of infants under one year, four from one
and under two years, two from two and under five years, and eight
over five years.
As in previous years inquiries were made from the medical
attendant, and in all the cases the deaths were stated to have been
caused by simple Meningitis.
Bacteriological Examinations.
During the year 726 bacteriological examinations were made
at the Lister Institute, compared with 841 in 1912, 624 in 19x1,
318 in 1910, 397 in 1909, 491 in 1908, 466 in 1907, 407 in 1906, 174
in 1905, 121 in 1904, 125 in 1903, and 98 in 1902.
The following Table shows the number of examinations in
each sub-district and for the. whole Borough, also the disease for
which the examination was made and the result of such examination.
