Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
There were no prosecutions under the Public Health (London)
Act, 1891, during the year.
Under the head of other workshops are included domestic
workshops, and under the head of places where food is prepared
for sale are included the kitchens of hotels, restaurants, tripe, fried
fish and eel shops, and other places where food is prepared for sale.
In all 708 inspections were made of 374 factories, and 52
notices, 50 intimation and two statutory, were served.
The total number of the workshops on the Register was 1,690,
144 of which were workshop laundries, 128 workshop bakehouses,
and 1,418 other workshops.
In all 3,059 inspections of these were made, compared with
3,346 in 1910, 3,366 in 1909, 3.130 in 1908, 3,148 in 1907, 3,233 in
1906, and 2,628 in 1905, and 195 intimation and 15 statutory
notices were served.
The total number of workplaces on the Register was 1,094
and 1,879 inspections were made, while 157 intimation and 14
statutory notices were served.
The total number of defects found was 614, including 13 cases
in which there was a breach of special sanitary requirements for
bakehouses compared with 720 and 11 in 1910.
To abate these nuisances 429 intimation and 33 statutory
notices were served, all of which, with the exception of 15, were
complied with at the end of the year. The 15 outstanding were
complied with in the first month of this year.
Excluding outworkers' premises 614 defects were found and
599 remedied, but only 402 intimation notices were served, as one
notice frequently called attention to several defects on the same
premises.
