Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
30 unwholesome or dilapidated houses were cleansed and
repaired, one in Clapham, none in Putney, two in Streatham, five
in Tooting and 22 in Wandsworth, compared with 38 in 1910, and
46 in 1909.
A large amount of work has again been carried out to abate
nuisances arising from damp conditions. In all 1,228 premises
have been dealt with, 259 in Clapham, 54 in Putney, 301 in Streatham,
160 in Tooting, and 453 in Wandsworth ; and in 444 of
these, 86 in Clapham, one in Putney, 46 in Streatham, 60 in Tooting,
and 250 in Wandsworth, damp courses have been inserted.
I have personally inspected all the premises where damp
courses were inserted as well as a large number of premises where
this had been done in 1909 and 1910, and I am able to report
that the dampness has been quite removed and the houses rendered
much healthier.
The number of unclassified nuisances was 765, 295 in Clapham,
49 in Putney, 216 in Streatham, 47 in Tooting, and 158 in Wandsworth,
compared with 746 in 1910.
Disinfection.
The total number of rooms disinfected after the occurrence
of cases of infectious disease was 4,419 (773 in Clapham, 237 in
Putney, 1,261 in Streatham, 533 in Tooting, and 1,615 in Wandsworth),
compared with 2,166 in 1910, 3,146 in 1909, 2,868 in 1908,
3,206 in 1907, and 2,794 in 1906.
The increase was altogether due to the increase in the number
of disinfections carried out after Measles, Scarlet Fever and
Diphtheria.
