Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Fairfield and Springfield Wards had the highest percentage of
families living in one room, and Putney the lowest. Clapham
North and South had the highest percentage living in two rooms,
and Southfield the lowest. Putney had the highest percentage
living in three rooms, and Clapham North the lowest. Southfield
and Clapham North had the highest percentage living in four rooms
and upwards, and Clapham South the lowest.
In the Borough, . of the total families whose houses were
inspected during the year, viz., 3,682, 87 per cent, lived in one
room, compared with 7.4 per cent, in 1910, 73 per cent, in 1909,
and 7.6 per cent, in 1908 ; 14.8 per cent, in two rooms, compared
with 9.5, 10.3, 11.8 and io-4 ; 25.2 per cent, in three rooms, compared
with 29.06, 27.5, 297 and 347 ; and 513 per cent, in four rooms
and upwards, compared with 54.1, 54.9, 50.9 and 48.
The small number of house-to-house inspections in Tooting
Ward was due to the fact that the Inspectors in that Ward have
also portions of Balham and Streatham Wards under their supervision,
and also the number of inspections made by these Inspectors
on account of Measles during the year shows a very large increase.
