Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The number of houses and premises inspected was 31,973, an
increase of 2,042 compared with 1910, and of 5,038 compared with
1909.
There was an increase in the number of houses and premises
inspected in Clapham North and South, Streatham, Balham,
Tootirg, Fairfield and Springfield Wards., and a decrease in Putney
and Southfield Wards.
The total number of house-to-house inspections made was
2,486, compared with 6,276 in 1910, 7,007 in 1909, 5,575 in 1908,
5,718 in 1907, and 5,686 in 1906. There has been an increase in
the number of these inspections in Fairfield Ward, and a decrease
in Clapham North and South, Putney, Streatham, Balham, Tooting,
Southfield and Springfield Wards.
Although the number of these inspections is much lower than
in the five previous years, yet it will be noted that the total number
of inspections has increased by 2,042. There were several reasons
why the number of house-to-house inspections were lower, one
being that the system adopted in these inspections and for recording
the same has, as stated in the Report for last year, been altered
so as to comply with the Housing, Town Planning, &c., Act, 1909.
Another reason was that a greater number of inspections was
made after notification of infectious diseases, as well as after
Measles, Whooping Cough and other diseases notified from Elementary
Schools. A third reason was that many inspections were
made of premises after notification from the Education Department
of the London County Council of verminous children to ascertain
if it was necessary to deal with the premises under the London
County Council (General Powers) Act, 1904.
