Railway Bill.
32. This Bill proposed to authorize the South Western Railway
Company to widen the Wimbledon and Fulham
Railway and works, and for that purpose to purchase
certain premises in this Borough and to interfere
with highways and rights and powers of the Council.
A petition was presented against the Bill and clauses for the
protection of this Borough having been agreed, the Council's
opposition was withdrawn, and the Bill received the Royal Assent
on the 7th August, 1912.
Wandsworth,
Wimbledon, and
Epsom District
Gas Bill.
33. The object of this Bill was to constitute as one undertaking
the undertakings of the Wandsworth & Putney, the
Mitcham & Wimbledon, and the Epsom & Ewell
Gas Companies. With the exception of a few minor
matters no new powers were sought. The total
capital of the new company is the sum of the total capital of the
three Companies. The Bill proposed to authorise the Company to
exercise the powers conferred upon the Wandsworth Gas Co., in
1900, to stop up certain footpaths and thoroughfares in this Borough.
The Bill also provided for the then standard price of gas to be
continued. The Council presented a petition against the Bill with
the view of obtaining the insertion of clauses for the protection
of this Borough. The Company afterwards agreed to insert
clauses providing for penalties in respect of calorific tests in lieu of
those for illuminating power, for the provision of a second testing
place in the Wandsworth limit, and with respect to the relative
prices of gas in the several limits, and other matters, whereupon the
Council's opposition was withdrawn, and the Bill received Royal
Assent on the 7th August.
Music and
Dancing.
34. This Bill was to the same effect as the Bill referred to in
paragraph 44 of the Council's last Annual Report.
The Council petitioned in favour thereof. The Bill
was read a third time in the House of Lords and then dropped.
Metropolitan
Police Rate.
35. This Bill proposed to increase the maximum of the Police
Rate from gd. to nd. in the £. The Council
presented a petition against the Bill, which, however,
received Royal Assent on the 29th March, 1912.
