In the separate sub-districts of the Borough the corrected
death-rate was 11.02 in Streatham, 11.88 in Putney, 11.73 in Tooting,
13.15 in Clapham, and 13.29 in Wandsworth.
The rates in all the sub-districts were much higher than in
1910, due to causes which will be commented on in another part of
this Report.
Table XVI. shows the death-rate in the Borough, in the five
sub-districts, and in England and Wales for the year, as well as the
rates for the previous 10 years, compared with the decennial average.
This Table has been calculated from the Census population
of 1911, and shows more correctly than could be done in intercensal
years the exact mortality in the various places. During the
previous decennium the lowest mortality in all the sub-districts,
as well as in London and England and Wales, was in the year 1910.
The rate in 1911, although higher than in 1910, is still, in all the subdistricts
with the exception of Streatham, lower than the average
of the previous 10 years. Compared with London and with
England and Wales the Borough rate is considerably lower.
