For the Year ended 31st March, 1912.
1
The Sub.Committee have pleasure in presenting the Twenty.
Fourth Annual Report of the Library.
In December, 1911, Councillors Hoile, Jackson, Mathias,
Radford and Rawson were appointed by the Borough Council
to act as Sub.Committee for the year 1912. Councillor Radford
was elected Chairman for the year.
A new scheme for the issue of catalogues has been adopted.
It is intended to issue a new edition every second year. The first
issue under the new scheme was made last year, and was so well
received that the edition was exhausted by the end of the year.
A bust of the late Sir George Newnes, Bart., the donor of the
Library, has been presented to the Library. A committee of local
gentlemen, presided over by His Worship the Mayor, Alderman
Dawnay, J.P., secured the necessary funds. The bust was unveiled
by Sir William White, K.C.B., and formally handed over by him
on May 23rd, 1911, to His Worship the Mayor, who accepted it on
behalf of the Borough.
With a view to economy the list of newspapers, etc., has been
curtailed and a reduction of £10 has been made in the estimates
for the ensuing year.
The Annual Estimates for the year amounted to £1,173. the
estimated product of a penny rate in the Putney Ward, plus receipts
from the sale of catalogues, etc.
The decision of the Sub.Committee to keep the Lending
Department open on Thursdays has been appreciated, and good
use has been made of the department on that day.
The Sub.Committee desire to thank the donors of various books
and newspapers to the Library.
