Table CI. shows the number of samples taken, the number
adulterated, and the percentage of adulterated samples for the
years 1900-1909, compared with the year 1910.
As will be seen from the above Table the percentage of
adulterated samples detected during the 10 years 1900-1909 was
9.17, compared with 9.05 in 1910, showing a decrease of .12 per
cent., but an increase of 2.16 per cent. compared with 1909.
Although the percentage of adulterated samples shows this
large increase compared with 1909, it must not be concluded that
the food supply of the Borough has deteriorated to that extent.
Such an increase can be accounted for in several ways, but is
mainly due to discrimination in the selection of, and the methods
adopted in obtaining, the samples for analysis.
The following Table shows the number of samples taken in
each sub-district of the Borough, together with the number per
1,000 of population, and the number of adulterations detected and
the percentage of adulterations.
