Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Offensive Trade Refuse.
No complaints have been received during the year as to the
removal of the above refuse, and I am able to report that the
arrangement entered into by the Council has been satisfactorily
carried out by the Contractor.
Unsound Food.
During the year, 10 cases of Haddocks, two trunks of Whiting,
four boxes of Herrings, one box of Plaice, four boxes of
Skate, 6 boxes of Cod, one box Winkles, one trunk of Soles, one
box Skate, 29 Hake, 30 Mackerel, 120 lbs. Rock Salmon, 50 boxes
of Tomatoes, 5 pecks of Strawberries, 36 Melons, 217 lbs. Beef
and 12 Turkeys, were destroyed at the request of the owners, and
the usual certificates granted.
Factories and Workshops.
Although the total number of inspections of factories, workshops
and workplaces is less than in 1909, yet a very large
amount of work was carried out by the male and female Inspectors
during the year. This decrease was chiefly due to the smaller
number of inspections of other workshops and workplaces. I am
able to report that the condition of all the factories, workshops
and workplaces is satisfactory, and that no difficulty has, during
the year, been experienced in having the necessary cleansing and
other sanitary work carried out by the occupiers.
As in former years there has been some slight difficulty in
obtaining the lists of outworkers, and it has been found necessary
to send a circular letter twice in each year to the majority of
employers, otherwise the lists would not have been forwarded.
