Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The decrease was chiefly due to the decrease in the number
.of disinfections carried out after Measles, Scarlet Fever and
Diphtheria.
1,230 lots of bedding were stoved at the Disinfecting- Station,
.compared with 1,584 in 1909, 1,826 in 1908, 1,948 in 1907, and
1,669 in 1906.
The 1,230 lots of bedding included the following:—694 beds,
755 bolsters, 1,916 pillows, 743 mattresses, 341 palliasses, 1,033
sheets, 1,166 quilts, 519 cushions, 4,162 articles of clothing, 2,062
blankets, 168 carpets, and 1,871 extra articles, a total of 15,430
articles, compared with 20,843 in 1909, 24,034 in 1908, 29,102 in
1907, and 28,885 in 1906.
418 premises were disinfected after Measles and 265 after
Tubercular disease of the Lungs, compared with 1,012 and 255 in
1909.
27 beds, 11 bolsters, 53 pillows, 44 mattresses, 53 palliasses,
10 sheets, 12 quilts, 20 cushions, 69 articles of clothing, 13
blankets, 17 carpets, and 109 extra articles, were removed and
destroyed by request of the owners during the year.
Disinfection was also carried out by the Sanitary Staff at
premises after non-notifiable diseases, chiefly Cancer, and the sum
of £20 7s. od. was received for such disinfection.
277 rooms were disinfected with sulphur in consequence of
their verminous condition, and 10 lots of verminous bedding
.disinfected.
I have regularly visited the Disinfecting Station during the
year, and am able to report that the work has been carried out
by the staff to my entire satisfaction.
