162 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Fairfield and Springfield Wards had the highest percentage
of families living in one room, and Putney the lowest. Fairfield
and Springfield had the highest percentage living in two rooms,
and Tooting the lowest. Putney had the highest percentage living
in three rooms, and Clapham North the lowest. Tooting and
Clapham North had the highest percentage living in four rooms
and upwards, and Fairfield the lowest.
In the Borough, of the total families whose houses were
inspected during the year, viz., 8,702, 7.4 per cent. lived in one
room, compared with 7.3 per cent. in 1909, 7.6 per cent. in 1908,
and 6.9 per cent. in 1907; 9.5 per cent. in two rooms, compared
with 10.3, 11.8 and 10.4; 29.06 per cent. in three rooms, compared
with 27.5, 29.7 and 34.7; and 54 per cent. in four rooms and
upwards, compared with 54.9, 50.9 and 48.
The small number of house-to-house inspections in Fairfield
Ward was due to the fact that the Inspector of that Ward has
also a portion of Southfield and Sprigfield Wards under his supervision,
and the house-to-house inspections carried out by him
during the year were chiefly in the Southfield Ward, in which
there was a considerable increase, compared with previous years.
