Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The percentage of children attending school was as follows :
in Clapham, 57 out of 106, or 53 per cent, were at school; in
Putney, 16 out of 51, or 31 per cent.; in Streatham, 113 out of
199, or 56 per cent.; in Tooting, 38 out of 81, or 47 per cent.;
and in Wandsworth, 126 out of 231, or 54 per cent.
The percentage in Tooting is calculated after deduction' of
the cases notified from Institutions in that sub-district.
In Clapham the schools chiefly affected were Cavendish Road,
in which 11 cases occurred, and Haselrigge Road, with nine cases.
Five of the cases in Cavendish Road occurred in June.
In Putney only 16 cases occurred among children attending
schools in that sub-district, but several of the cases in Putney
attended schools in the Wandsworth sub-district.
In Streatham the schools chiefly affected were Oldridge Road
with 18 cases, and Welham Road, 11 cases.
In Tooting, Sellincourt Road was chiefly affected with 16
cases, six of these occurring in June.
In Wandsworth this disease was slightly more prevalent than
in the other sub-districts, and the schools chiefly affected were
Eltringham Street with 24 cases, Brandlehow Road with 19 cases,
the Wandle with 14 cases, and Southfields with 10 cases. In
Eltringham Street six cases occurred in November and five in
December, and in Brandlehow Road seven of the cases occurred
in October.
In both schools there were missed cases which were the cause
of infection, but only in Brandlehow Road was it necessary to
take any action, one of the classrooms having to be closed so that
thorough disinfection could be carried out.
