has increased from 120,744 to 486,328, and the growth of the
stock from 6,017 volumes, with which the Tate Library opened,
to 43,240 the present aggregate stock of the three libraries.
The Sub-Committee are also gratified to observe how extensively
the libraries are used by students and others for acquiring
knowledge and information on the many and varied
subjects of study occupying their attention. It may be interesting
to mention as indicating the educative value of the libraries that
last year there were issued for home-reading no fewer than 48,179
books in the classes of literature comprising history, biography,
travel, science, art, ethics, poetry, sociology, etc.
The issue of 11,103 volumes for consultative purposes at
the Tate Library shows that in the populous district of Streatham
a suitable Reference Reading Room is greatly needed.

All tickets are renewable every year. The students' tickets,
are not available for works of fiction or books in the Juvenile
Department.
