Depots and
Wharves.
98. The subject of the Council's depot and wharf accommodation
has been under the consideration of a SubCommittee
of the Highways Committee, and, the
work of the Borough Engineer's department having been recently
centralised, upon their recommendation the use of the small depot
at the rear of houses in Sulina Road, Streatham, was discontinued.
The Council's lease of these premises expires at Lady-day, 1912,
and steps are being taken with the view of obtaining a tenant for
the remainder of the term.
99. The Council is also endeavouring to let the Waterside
Wharf, at the end of Jew's Row, Wandsworth, the other wharves
in the possession of the Council being sufficient for its present
purposes owing to the centralisation of work mentioned above.
100. The freehold land belonging to the Council on the southwestern
side of Garratt Lane, Tooting, formerly used as a slop
shoot, having been filled up, part of the site is being used as a
depot, thus rendering unnecessary the retention of the old Tooting
depot and mortuary on the opposite side of Garratt Lane. These
premises are held by the Council on a lease having nearly sixty
years to run, and arrangements are being made for their disposal.

and to prevent them from drifting into casual employment, and
(2) the advisability of appointing a deputation to attend the
President of the Board of Education on the subject. This Council
was represented at the Conference by Alderman Cresswell and
Councillor Taylor. After considerable discussion at the Conference
all the motions were referred to a Committee consisting
of one representative of each of the Councils represented at the
Conference, for consideration and report to a further meeting of
the Conference. A deputation waited upon the London County
Council in the matter, but no further meeting of the Conference
has as yet been convened.
102. The London County Council in December last convened
a Conference of various Local and other Authorities and Associations
to consider the subject of the development of trade
