35 out of a total of 52 deaths from Diarrhoea, and 31 out of a
total of 72 from Enteritis occurred in the third quarter of the
year. The proportion of deaths in this quarter to total deaths
from Diarrhoea is smaller than in previous years with the exception
of 1907.
The number of deaths from Diarrhoea, Zymotic Enteritis, and
Enteritis under one year represents 15 per cent, of the total
mortality at that age, compared with 19 per cent, in 1908, 13.8 per
cent, in 1907, 33 per cent, in 1906, 21.1 per cent, in 1905, and 28.8
per cent, in 1904, so that the diminution of the mortality under
one year was, as in the two previous years, largely due to the
decrease in the number of deaths of infants from the above causes.
In 82 out of the total deaths under one year, special enquiries
were made, and the following Table shows the nature of the food!
given.
