Clapham,
Widening.
q8. Terms have now been agreed for the purchase of all the
interests proposed to be acquired in the strip of
property required for widening High Street, Clapham,
and arrangements are being made with the view of the
improvement being effected when the leases of the premises expire
in 1910. The County Council is contributing one-third of the cost
Valley Road
Widening.
99. The Council came to an arrangement for the widening to
40 feet of the part of Valley Road, Streatham,
between Sunnyhill Road and Wellfield Road. The
owner of the property on the eastern side of the road gave up the
necessary land and erected a new fence to an approved give-andtake
line. The paving works were executed by the Council at its
own cost.

Widening
100. The total cost of widening Tooting Bec Road and Upper
Tooting Road, when the Stapleton House estate
was developed for building purposes, was £2,045
4s. 2d. The estimated cost of the improvement was
£ 1,900.
Unemployment
101. The following works, upon which unemployed workmen
were engaged, were carried out in conjunction with
the Central (Unemployed) Body for London, viz. :—
(a) Planting trees in various parts of the Borough.
(b) Alteration of gradients, Rectory Lane, Tooting, and
Streatham.
(c) Diversion of stream and construction of concrete
vert at Garratt Park.
(d) Filling in ditches and widening Tooting Bee Road,
between The Avenue and the railway bridge.
The estimated cost of these works was as follows, viz. : —
