then partly by drain and by open ditch through Manresa
House grounds, Mount Clare grounds, and Richmond
Park to Beverley Brook. The overflow from the Chelsea
Water Works Reservoir flows into the ditch between
Scio Pond and the way-side pond.
"There is at no point in the course of this drain any
connection with the sewage system, and no sewage from
any of the houses enters the drain. The way-side pond
in Roehampton Lane is 200 yards from the Infants'
School, and was, at my request, cleaned out by the Conservators
at the beginning of October, 1907. I inspected
the pond at the time it was being cleaned out, and the
material taken out consisted wholly of vegetable matter
and earth which had been washed from the road and
banks.
"In my previous report on the outbreak at Roehampton
I stated that all the drains, sewers and gullies
had been inspected and thoroughly flushed, also that the
drains at the school had been tested with water with a
satisfactory result and a certificate granted in 1907."
(3.) Special inspections were made of all the premises where offensive
trades were carried on, for the purpose of examining the
means adopted to comply with the London County Council
By-laws as to the ventilation of such premises. The three
premises dealt with during the year were :—
(1.) Harrison, Barber & Co., Garratt Lane, Wandsworth.
(2.) Ford's, Bendon Valley, Wandsworth.
(3.) Dallett's, High Street, Putney.
In all these some system of mechanical ventilation had
been installed, and I am able to report that the By-laws have
now been complied with.
