Reference
Department.
The books in this department are shelved in open cases, and
readers have free access to the books, a privilege which
is highly appreciated by the residents of Putney. The
department is also used by many persons residing in the neighbouring
districts. No records are kept of the books consulted, but it is
estimated that upwards of 150 readers use the room daily. During
the year 43 volumes have been added to the department, making the
total stock at present 2,350 volumes.
Magazine
Rooms.
These rooms continue to be used by a large number of readers,
and it is very unusual to be able to find a chair vacant
after 7 p.m. Thirty-eight monthly magazines and
reviews, five quarterlies, and 49 weekly periodicals are placed in these
rooms. The magazines and reviews are transferred to the lending
department at the end of the month, where they are in great demand
for home reading.
News
Room.
The list of newspapers, &c., provided in this room includes
31 daily newspapers, among which are Birmingham,
Cardiff, Dublin, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Manchester, and
Plymouth daily journals, 56 weekly newspapers and periodicals and
52 monthly and quarterly publications.
The Sub-Committee again have much pleasure 111 recording their
satisfaction with the work of the Librarian and his staff.
Tables of information relating to the issues of books, classification
of stock, &c., will be found on pages 209 and 210.
List of newspapers, periodicals, magazines, &c., will be found on
pages 212 and 213.
Signed on behalf of the Putney Library Sub-Committee.
JAS. EDW. PARKER,
May 8th, 1909. Chairman.
