144 Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The number of houses and premises inspected was 24,230, a
slight decrease compared with the previous year when 24,458
inspections were made.
There was an increase in the number of houses and premises
inspected in Clapham North and South, Putney, Balham, Southfield,
and Springfield Wards, and a decrease in Streatham,
Tooting and Fairfield Wards.
The total number of house-to-house inspections made was
5,718, compared with 5,686 in 1906, 6,290 in 1905, and 6,440 in
1904. There has been an increase in the number of house-to-house
inspections in the Clapham North, Streatham, Southfield, Fairfield,
and Springfield Wards, and a decrease in Clapham South, Putney,
Balham, and Tooting Wards.
The decrease in these inspections was due to the increase in
the number of cases of infectious diseases and complaints, and
more especially is this the case in Tooting Ward. In Streatham
also, although there was a slight increase in the number of houseto-house
inspections, yet the total number was only 281. I have
brought this matter to the notice of the Committee, and the question
of increasing the number of Sanitary Inspectors is at present
under consideration.
