In all the sub-districts, with the exception of Streatham, the
birth-rate was lower than in the previous year. In that subdistrict
there was an increase from 18.47 to i8'82 per 1,000. The
lowest birth-rate was in Putney, where it was only 16.46 per
1,000, compared with 17.12 in 1906, and the highest in Tooting,
31.38, compared with 35.44 in 1906.
The actual number of births registered was lower in all the
sub-districts than in the previous year, with the exception of
Streatham, where 98 more births occurred, and the total number
of births in the whole Borough was 21 fewer than in 1906.
The following Table shows the birth-rate in the Borough, in
the five sub-districts, in London, and in England and Wales, for
the year, as well as the rates for the previous 10 years, compared
with the decennial average.
