Local
Authorities
(Transfer of
TreasuryPowers).
77. This Bill provided that the Local Government Board
should exercise, as regards every local authority
in England, except the London County Council,
any powers conferred on the Treasury by any enactment
contained in, applied by, or incorporated with the Baths and
Washhouses Acts, or the Burial Acts, or any local or private Act,
as respects dealings with property, loans, and matters connected
therewith. The Council took no action with regard to the Bill,
which received the Royal Assent on the 4th August.
South Eastern
& London,
Chatham &
Dover Railway.
78. So far as related to this Borough, this Bill proposed to
extend, for a period of two years from the 6th
August, 1907, the time for the compulsory purchase
of lands and the execution of works in connection
with railway widenings near Wandsworth Road Station, authorised
by the Company's Act of 1900. No action was taken by the
Council thereon, and the Bill became law on the 4th July, 1907.

Margarine

the manufacture, importation, and sale of butter
and margarine and similar substances. On the
Bill coming before a Committee of the House of Commons a new

Act, 1887, so as to enable Inspectors of Weights and
Measures to take samples of margarine. The Council deemed it
inexpedient that such powers should be conferred on Inspectors
of Weights and Measures, and petitioned the House of Lords to
strike out the clause.
Justices of the
Peace (No. 2).
80. This Bill dealt with the qualification of County Justices,
and provided that a solicitor might be appointed
a County Justice, and that any person who was a
Justice of the Peace by virtue only of his office might be excluded
from the exercise of his functions by the same authority by which
other Justices can be removed from the Commission of the Peace.
The Council made no order on the Bill, which passed and received
Royal Assent on the 4th August.

the County Council and the City Corporation) to
make bye-laws with respect to advertising hoardings
