Milkshops.
At the close of 1905 there were 302 milkshops on the Register,
73 have been added in 1906 and 23 removed, leaving 352 on
the Register at the end of 1906.
During the year 805 inspections were made of these premises
and 35 notices, chiefly for cleansing, were served. Two prosecutions
were taken for occupying premises without being registered
and in all the cases fines were inflicted.
Special attention has again been given this year to the enforcing
of the Milkshop Regulations, and the notice of all registered
purveyors of milk was called to the regulations which deal with
the protection of milk against infection or contamination.
Two milk vendors were prosecuted for failing to comply with
the regulations in that the vessel used for storage on the counter
was not covered so as to preserve the purity of the milk against
infection or contamination. These milk vendors were convicted and
fined in one case 10s. and 2s. costs, and in the other £1 and 2s.
