Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
The following Table shows the number of examinations in each sub-district, for the whole Borough, also the disease for which the examination was made, and the result of such examination.
Clapham. | Putney. | Streatham. | Tooting. | Wandsworth. | Whole Borough. | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Diphtheria. Negative | 20 | 69 | 61 | 8 | 99 | 257 |

Enteric Fever. Negative | ... | ... | 8 | 3 | 14 | 25 |
Positive | 1 | 2 | 7 | 2 | 7 | 19 |
Totals | 30 | 77 | 104 | 20 | 176 | 407 |
There has been a very large increase in the number of
examinations made for Diphtheria, this being to some extent due
to the increase in Putney, owing to the outbreak of Diphtheria in
the Hambro Orphanage, Roehampton, and in Wandsworth owing
to the cases in the Home for Mentally Defective Children.
There has also been a very decided increase in the number of
cases examined in Clapham and Streatham, but in Tooting the
increase has only been slight.
In 106 out of the 363 examinations made for the bacillus of
Diphtheria the result was positive, and in 19 out of the 44
examinations of blood in suspected cases of Enteric Fever the
Widal reaction was obtained.
Puerperal Fever.
25 cases of Puerperal Fever were notified, compared with 18
an 1905, 14 in 1904, and 13 in 1903.
Five of the cases occurred in Clapham, four in Putney, four
in Streatham, two in Tooting, and 10 in Wandsworth.
