Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Of the remaining 1,168 infants, 19 or .27 per cent. were
stated to have been insusceptible to vaccination, 140 or 2'o per
cent, in respect to whom certificates of conscientious objection
were received, 265 or 3.8 per cent. had the vaccination postponed
by medical certificate, leaving 531 or 77 per cent. as removed, not
to be traced, or otherwise unaccounted for, while 213 or 3.1 per
cent. remained on the books as unvaccinated, compared with 5.4
remaining as unvaccinated in 1904.
If the number of deaths of infants who died unvaccinated be
deducted from the total births, then of the 6,313 remaining infants
81.5 per cent. were successfully vaccinated, compared with 80.5
in 1904, and 80.4 in 1903; .3 were insusceptible of vaccination,
compared with .48 in 1904, and .5 in 1903; 4.2 per cent. were
under medical certificate of postponement, compared with 3.4 in
1904, and 3 in 1903; and 2.2 per cent. in regard to whom certificates
of conscientious objection had been obtained, compared with
2.1 in 1904, and 1.6 in 1903; leaving 11.8 per cent. unaccounted
for as regards vaccination, compared with 13.1 in 1904, and 14.3
in 1903.
On the whole the returns for 1905 compare most favourably
with previous years.
