Borough, which found work for about 250 unemployed men, and has
proved a most successful undertaking, in this connection we also reccrd
with great pleasure the kindly sympathy shown by the Mayoress and yourself
in providing a dinner and entertainment in the winter for a large
number of the unemployed at Clapham.
By your generous hospitality, and by the Public Receptions which vou
have held of Inhabitants of the Borough specially interested in Sunday
School work, in General Education, and in other Religious and Social subjects,
you have shown a broad-minded conception of your Mayoral duties
which has enhanced the respect felt for your high Office, and you have
fully maintained in every way its usefulness and popularity.
The many public Ceremonies which you have attended as Mayor
include the Flower Show of the Southfields Children's Horticultural Society,
at which the prizes were distributed by Her Royal Highness the Princes?
Alexander of Teck, and the Dedication of the handsome Clock and Tower
at Clapham Cross, which >ou presented, when the Lord Mayor and Lady
Mayoress and the Sheriffs of the City of London were present in state to
show their appreciation of your munificent and useful gift.
The admirable manner in which you have discharged your Magisterial
duties, your able, courteous, and impartial conduct in the Chair at the
Council Meetings, and the great interest you have taken, not only in the
business of the Council but in the affairs of the Borough generally, deserve
our hearty recognition.
We specially desire to express our cordial thanks to the Mayoress for
the kindly and graceful manner in which upon so many occasions she has
entertained her guests, and for the time which she has so ungrudgingly
given in attending and supporting the numerous social and public functions
in which you have been called upon to take part.
It is our earnest hope that the Mayoress and yourself may long enjoy
health and happiness, and that for many years to come the Borough will
have ti»e benefit of your services as a Member of the Council.
