Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
In the separate sub-districts of the Borough, the death-rate
was highest in Tooting—13.49 per 1,000, and lowest in Streatham—9.59
per 1,000. In 1905 Wandsworth had the highest rate,
viz. :—13'oo, and Streatham the lowest, viz. :—1o.o6 per 1,000.
The rate in Clapham was higher by .63 per 1,000 compared with
1905, lower in Putney by .02, lower in Streatham by '47, higher
in Tooting by 1 .58, and lower in Wandsworth by .92 per 1,000.
The rates in this Table do not agree with the rates in Table
XI., as the rates in the latter Table are calculated on the total
population without deducting the population of non-parishioners
in Public Institutions in the Borough.
The first Chart shows the annual death-rate per 1,000 of
population during each week for the whole of London, and for
each fortnight for the Borough.
As was the case in 1905, the death-rate in this Borough was
always lower than that for all London, the only time when the
rates almost approximated being in the third week in September.
This was due, as in previous years, to the increase in the number
of deaths in this Borough from Diarrhoea and Zymotic Enteritis.
The approximation would not be so apparent if the weekly rates
for London and the Borough were compared.
The next Chart shows the death-rate in this Borough for each
fortnight, compared with the rates in the year 1905.
This shows that in January the rate was lower in the first
fortnight and higher in the second, lower in February, higher in
the first fortnight in March, lower in the second and higher in the
third, higher in April and May, higher in the first fortnight in
June and lower in the second, lower in the first fortnight in July
and higher in the second, lower in August, lower in the first
fortnight in September and higher in the other two fortnights,
and lower in October, November, and December.
Only once during the year was the rate above 15 per 1,000,
while in 1905 this rate was exceeded on three occasions, and on
six occasions the rate was under 10 per 1,000. The lowest rate
was recorded in the first fortnight in November when it was only
