Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
Table LXXXII. shows the number of samples taken, the number
adulterated, and the percentage adulterated for the 10 years 1896-1905.
Year. | No. of Samples. Taken. | No. Adulterated. | Percentage Adulterated. |
---|---|---|---|
1896 | 554 | 18 | 3"2 |
1897 | 597 | 25 | 41 |
1898 | 606 | 26 | 42 |
1899 | 602 | 50 | 83 |
1900 | 587 | 43 | 7.1 |
1901 | 600 | 69 | 11.5 |
1902 | 584 | 51 | 8.7 |
1903 | 729 | 90 | 1.23 |
1904 | 750 | 85 | 11.3 |
1905 | 853 | 65 | 7.6 |
The percentage of adulteration cannot be taken as representing
the amount of adulteration carried on, as so much depends on the
methods adopted for purchasing samples. During the past three
years, however, the same methods have been adopted, and it is
satisfactory to observe that the percentage in 1905 is lower than it
was in the two previous years.
