The above Table shows that there has been a decided increase
in the number of examinations for the Diphtheria bacillus, and also
an increase in the number of examinations of blood in suspected cases
of Enteric Fever.
In 51 out of 142 examinations for the Diphtheria bacillus the
result was positive, and in 20 out of 32 examinations of blood in
suspected cases of Enteric Fever the Widal re-action was obtained.
Puerperal Fever.
18 cases of Puerperal Fever were notified, compared with 14 in
1904, and 13 in 1903.
Three of the cases occurred in Claphain, none in Putney, four in
Streatham, four in Tooting, and seven in Wandsworth.
Eight of the cases (one in Clapham, three in Streatham, three in
Tooting, and one in Wandsworth), or 44.4 per cent. were fatal,
compared with 357 per cent. in 1904.
Four of the cases were removed to the Union Infirmary and two
deaths occurred.
The death-rate was .028 per 1,000, compared with .013 in 1904,
and .024 in 1903.
