Report of the Medical Officer of Health.
There has been this year a large increase in the actual number of
return cases as also in the percentage to total cases notified. In 1904
the number of cases was only 17 and the percentage to total cases 1.4,
while in 1905 the numbers were 51 and 3.4.
The average duration in hospital of these 51 cases was nearly 60
days, compared with 56 days in 1904 and 54 in 1903.
In 11 of the cases it was noted by the parent that the child when
it returned had a discharge from nose or ear and in six that there was
slight desquamation.
In the others the children were reported by the parents to have
been in good health when discharged from hospital.
In 13 cases information was received from the hospital authorities
that the patient was to be discharged while suffering from chronic
discharge from ear or nose, but no return cases resulted.
