The necessary apparatus for a card catalogue has been obtained
during the year, and all additions since the printing of the main
catalogue have been entered on this catalogue which has been placed
in a position easily accessible to borrowers. The new catalogue is
in a forward state of preparation and the Sub Committee hope to be
able to send it to press during the ensuing year.
The extinction of the out-standing debt on the Libraries has freed
an additional sum of money for expenditure on books; in anticipation
of this the Books Sub-Committee were asked in October of last year
to overhaul certain classes of books in the West Hill Library,
especially those on Science, in order that those out of date might be
replaced by the latest editions and the newest books on the various
branches of Science. This has been done and the work of rejection
is being continued in Classes A, B, C and D.
The Board of Education drew attention to the advisability of
subscribing to the National Home Reading Union; we have instructed
the Librarian to become an Honorary Member.
The whole of the Libraries Committee was invited for the meeting
held on the 17th October, 1905.
The following changes have occurred:—Mr. A. Nash, Librarianin-charge,
left the Allfarthing Branch Library on the last day of the
year (March 31st); Mr. R. Cooper, second Assistant, left and was
succeeded by Mr. L. E. Hull, from Tooting Library; W. H. Kirchner,
junior Assistant, was followed by R. Cruttenden; H. Tarrant, Saturday
Assistant, was followed by T. Davis.
