Table XVII. shows the deaths under one year in the Borough and
in the several sub-districts arranged according to ten different causes
of death.
Nine deaths only occurred from the notifiable infectious diseases,
42 from Measles and Whooping Cough, 31 from Tubercular diseases,
14 from Accident, 290 from Premature Birth and Developmental
diseases, 247 from Diarrhoea and Enteritis, 113 from diseases of the
respiratory organs, and 111 from other diseases.
Compared with 1903 there is a slight decrease in the number of
deaths from Premature Birth and Developmental diseases, but a
considerable increase in the number of deaths from Diarrhoea and
Enteritis.
The percentage of deaths from Premature Birth with Developmental
diseases to total deaths under one year was 33'8, compared
with 42'! in 1903, and 36 4 in 1902.
