27 cases of overcrowding were abated, compared
with 22 in 1899, 26 in 1898, and 39 in 1897.
The number of rooms, staircases and passages
cleansed and repaired showed a very large increase,
viz. : 1,045 compared with 585 in 1899, and 171 in

in which house-to-house inspections were made by the
Sanitary Inspectors every room in the house required
cleansing.
178 drains were relaid, compared with 175 in 1899,
and 226 drains were cleansed and repaired, compared
with 215 in 1899.
487 waterclosets were cleansed and repaired, and a
separate supply of water was laid on to 28 waterclosets,
compared with 360 and 58 in 1899.
The number of cases in which water was required
to be laid on has steadily diminished for the last few
years.
In 38 cases, notices were served for the removal of
accumulations of manure, compared with 33 last year.
Three dilapidated houses were cleansed and repaired,
compared with 15 in 1899, and 11 houses were resupplied
with water, compared with six in 1899.
The following list contains particulars of the police
court proceedings during the year :—
