Medical Officers of Health Annual Report.
which are now classified under four distinct headings,
viz , Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Pleurisy, and "other diseases
of the respiratory organs." Moreover venereal diseases
are tabulated, they being formerly included under "other
constitutional diseases." In regard to this disease it is
highly improbable that the mortality statistics ever shew
a correct record, inasmuch as owing to the present system
of registration of deaths, sentiment frequently prevails, and
some secondary disease is certified as the cause. From
the disease in question, two deaths only were recorded
during the year and these in infants under one year of age
It will also be seen that the table deals with corrected
statistics, i.e.—the deaths of "non-residents" occurring
in the district are eliminated, and those of "residents"
occurring outside the district are included.
Table IV. is also newly introduced by direction of
the Local Government Board. These tables being used
in all districts greatly facilitate comparison by reason of
the uniformity in tabulation. This table is almost a
combination of Tables I. and V., but, in view of the fact
that different periods are included in the respective tables,
they are still retained for comparative purposes.
