Medical Officers of Health Annual Report.
The number of houses disinfected after infectious
diseases was 643, and the number of rooms 683, an
increase compared with last year. This increase was due
to the greater number of notified cases of infectious
disease. In only very few instances has disinfection
been carried out by others than the officers of the
sanitary authority, and these tend to diminish year by
year, thus making the cost of such disinfection an
increasing factor.
660 sets of bedding were this year disinfected by
the contractor, and in every instance this was carried out
satisfactorily. In view of the increased cost of steam
disinfection, I am of opinion that the time has now
arrived for the parish to erect a disinfecting station
where this could be carried out at a lessened cost and
with more direct supervision. I append a table showing
the number of cases of infectious disease notified since
the passing of the Public Health (London) Act, also
showing the sets of bedding stoved and the cost of such
for each year.
