totals for whole district.

The birth-rate was therefore 28.52 per thousand, compared
with 27.01 in 1890. The mean birth-rate for the
last ten years was 29.0, so that the rate is still below
the average. The birth-rate for the whole of London
was 31.8. The excess of births over deaths was 2424,
and the rate of natural increase was 15.42.
Deaths. The total number of deaths that occurred,
excluding deaths in institutions, the inhabitants of which
are from outside the district was 2,053, of which 1,008
were of males and 1,045 of females.
