PUTNEY & ROEHAMPTON.
Population. The population of this sub-district is estimated
to be 15,970 in the middle of the year 1888.
This number it arrived at by calculating the increase
since the last census at the same rate as obtained during
the preceding decade. This calculation is, however,
almost certainly much below the actual population.
There has been an extraordinary expansion of the Parish
during the last two or three years. This fact must be
borne in mind in considering the birth and death rates
in the various tables given below, inasmuch as they are
considerably higher than they would be, if we had the
actual population as our basis of calculation.
Birth-rate. During the year 366 births were registered,
192 males and 174 females. Corrected for increase
in the population there were 9 more births registered
during 1888, than during the previous year. The
birth-rate was 22.9 per 1000. In the whole of London
during the same period the birth-rate was 30.7 per 1000.
In Table I the birth and death rates are compared with
those of the preceding 9 years.
