The proportion of inquests to total deaths is 51 per
cent, which is very satisfactory, as shewing the thoroughly
efficient manner in which the high and important
duties of his office are carried out in this district by the
coroner.
Vaccination. The number of cases successfully vaccinated
by the Public Vaccinator during 1887 as shewn by the
official register is subjoined:—

Social The usual table of the social condition of the
Position. Persons whose deaths have been registered
during the year is interesting, as affording in some
measure a test of the relative proportions living in the
sub-district. It must, however, be remembered, that
the deaths are more numerous in proportion to numbers
in the industrial classes as the result of a higher birth-
