A special investigation into the state of the water and
mud in the Lake at Battersea Park exhibited a most unsatisfactory
state of things, and pointed to the urgent
necessity of cleansing the same.
Between the date to which the above returns are made
up and the present time, the Margarine Act has become
law. It is too early yet to speak with confidence, but
it has at all events started well, and the tradesmen of
the district are honestly carrying it out so far, by duly
stamping all parcels of suspicious butter.
I have the honor to be,
Gentlemen,
Your obedient Servant,
JOHN MUTER, Ph. D., F.R.S.E., F.I.C.
Public Analyst.
