Sickness and
Mortality
of the
Parochial
Poor.
The several diseases with their nature,
amount and fatality, that occurred amongst
the parochial poor during the year are contained
in Table XIII., page 21. The total
number of fresh cases coming under treatment was 683
and the total number of resultant deaths 31, or 4.5 per
cent., being somewhat below the average. The largest
proportion of the mortality was contributed by diseases
of the breathing organs, amounting to nearly one-third
of the whole, 207 cases having resulted in 10 deaths.
Epidemic diseases were greatly diminished in number
and intensity; they amounted to 49, the average number
being 88. As in the sub-district generally, the only
diseases that prevailed epidemically were Measles and
Diarrhoea, 15 cases of the former and 25 of the latter.
There were 5 cases of Fever, 2 of Scarlatina, and I of
Diphtheria. They were all unattended with fatality
