We would suggest the following indications to the
Company, in the improvement of their water supply:—
I. The proper management of efficiently constructed
filter-beds.
II. The construction of reservoirs capable of holding
several days' supply, for the purpose—
1. Of allowing of the subsidence of the
heavier portions of the mechanicallysuspended
matter.
2. Of allowing of the intake being closed
against the reception of water in a time
of flood, when the water is in a particularly
foul and unsuitable condition.
III. The establishment of a constant service of water
according to the Act providing for the same.
For all matters of less general and more local interest,
we refer the reader to the local summaries; and, in concluding
our introductory remarks, we venture to express
the hope that the success which has hitherto attended
the operations of your Board may continue to reward its
future efforts to secure the sanitary welfare of the
Wandsworth District.
