have prepared a list of the localities in which deaths from
contagious diseases occurred during the past year, for the
guidance of your Surveyor. But in consequence of the incompleteness
in the numbering of the houses, especially in
localities where for such purpose it is most needed, it is
impossible in many instances to derive that practical value
which the death register would otherwise convey. It is most
desirable that every house should have its distinguishing
number, for obvious reasons of private convenience; and this
simple and inexpensive procedure, it is submitted, requires
to be uniformly carried out, not only for the sake of the
convenience of the inhabitants, but also for facilitating the
performance of the sanitary duties of the Board.
GEORGE EDWARD NICHOLAS, M.D.
Medical Officer of Health for Wandsworth.
