Vaccination.—The total number of vaccinations in this
division of the Sub-district, as shown by the Public Vaccinator's
Register during 1872, was—
Primary vaccinations 951
Re-vaccinations 30
981
In addition to the above there are those vaccinated by
private practitioners, so that it is probable that very few
cases escape vaccination; but at the same time it is, to say
the least, unfortunate, that it has been found impossible to
obtain information as to the actual number of births and
vaccinations and their relation in point of numbers to each
other.
Other Diseases.—Tubercular maladies, in which are included
Pulmonary, Phthisis, Tubercular disease of the Brain
and other organs, and the wasting diseases of infancy,
contributed 137 deaths to the total mortality.
Diseases of the Respiratory Organs, other than Consumption;
such as Bronchitis, Pneumonia,&c, were registered
as the cause of death in 99 instances.
Brain and Nerve diseases, yearly becomingmore prevalent,
caused 54 deaths.
Heart disease was registered as terminating life in 32
cases.
Diseases of the Digestive Organs account for 19 other
deaths, and Premature Birth for a like number. Diseases
of uncertain seat, merely registered as occurring from
"Cancer," "Dropsy," &c., 18 others.
There were 18 deaths from violence during the year,
all of them undergoing investigation by the Coroner.
