Zymotic Diseases.—The relative proportion and percentage of deaths due to Zymotic diseases to deaths from all causes that have occurred iu the past and ten previous years, will be better understood by a comparison of the figures embodied in the following table:

It is worthy of remark that of the 15 Zymotic diseases
named in the table of mortality, 8 of them, viz., Whooping
Cough, Croup, Quinsy, Erysipelas, Carbuncle, Influenza,
Malignant Cholera, and Small Pox, did not contribute a
single death to the Register of the past year.
Of the last named disease (Small Pox) it is gratifying to
report that the cases treated in both public and private
practice were unusually few.
It is also satisfactory to find that a resort to vaccination
has become more general since the amended Act of Parliament
has secured the registration of all certificates,
whether given by private practitioners or public vaccinators.
There is still, however, much prejudice to overcome, and
much misunderstanding of the provisions of the new Act to
be removed before all the good expected of the measure
can be realized. Until the amended Act came into operation
(Jan. 1st, 1868) it was not possible to ascertain correctly
the number of children who had received the protection of
vaccination, and the number upon whom the operation had
never been performed. Now, however, these statistics can
be collected and given with tolerable exactness.
Of the 263 children born within the Sub-district in the
past year, it has been ascertained that 108 had received the
