Sanitary operations during the Year.—Table VI. in the
Appendix furnishes a summary of most of the sanitary proceedings
applying to this as well as to the other four Subdistricts.
The construction of new sewers and drains, the
systematic inspection of houses, and the removal of various
nuisances, are all sanitary matters that have been vigorously
prosecuted during the year. There was seized and condemned
during the year, a large quantity (6¾ cwt.) of Fish
and about 15 lbs. of Plums as unfit for human consumption.
All the slaughter and cow houses throughout the parish
also received the usual supervision, and altogether it is
believed there has not passed a year of more activity and
determination on the part of those intrusted with the
execution of sanitary measures than has that of 1868. I
have not considered it necessary to allude in this place to
the water supply of this Sub-district, since my views upon
that subject are quite in accordance with those expressed
by my colleagues.
WM. CONNOR, M.B.,
Medical Officer of Health
for the Sub-district of Battersea.
