AGE AT DEATH.
Upwards of 46 per cent. of all deaths occurred under
20 years of age; 39 per cent. under 5 years of age ; and
nearly 20 per cent. died during the first year of life.
SOCIAL POSITION.
Nearly four-fifths of all deaths occurred amongst the
labouring and industrial classes; and of the 62 deaths from
epidemic diseases, 57 took place amongst them.
On looking in the foregoing Table for an explanation
of the higher death-rate of the past year, it is at once
seen that such was due to a greater fatality from
Zymotic diseases; hence it will be desirable to examine
them more in detail, to ascertain the relation which they
bore to each other as well as to the total deaths.
