Bacteriological examinations have been carried out by the Public Health Laboratory at County Hall. The following is a statement of the specimens submitted to the Laboratory during 1963

MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
39 medical examinations were carried out during the year in respect
of new appointments and persons on whom special reports were required in
connection with absence through sickness.
NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT 1948
Removals
Under Section 47 of the National Assistance Act, 1948, as amended
by the National Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1951, the Council found it
necessary to apply to the Court for an Order for the removal to hospital
of an elderly woman, who was living in insanitary conditions and was in
need of care and attention..
Burials
Under Section 50 of this Act it is the responsibility of the Borough
Council to arrange for the burial or cremation of any person who has died
or is found dead within the area, and where no private arrangements are
made for the disposal of the body.
Eight burials were carried out under the provisions of this Act
during 1963 at a total cost of £165. 4. 2. of which £125. 3.11. was recovered
from the estates of the deceased.
MEALS ON WHEELS SERVICE FOR THE HOUSEBOUND
The Council assumed the responsibility for this service from the 1st
April, 1963. From this date until the end of December 1963 the total
numbers of meals delivered and the cost of the meals to the Council are
as follows
