Royal Assent on 24th May, 1962. This extended the powers of local
authorities to assist voluntary organisations to provide meals or recreation
for old people by making contributions to the cost of such a
service and also to provide equipment.
The Council approved in principle, the setting up of a work centre
for the elderly in the Hall of Remembrance, Clissold Road, the provision
of a meals and recreational centre and to extend the meals service to
the housebound. By the end of the year detailed information and approximate
costs were prepared by the public health department for submission
to Council early in 1963, when it is hoped some, if not all of the total
scheme will be put into operation.
My thanks are expressed to the Chairman and Members of the Public
Health Committee for their support and to the Chief Officers of other
departments for their help and co-operation.
Finally, ray thanks are extended to my Deputy and to the members of
the staff of the Public Health Department for their assistance throughout
the year.
S. KING
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
