Foil Wrapping in Bottle of Milk
An unopened bottle of sterilised milk purchased by a resident in the
borough contained what appeared to be red paper floating in the milk.
The foil cap was removed from the bottle in the presence of two
Public Health Inspectors and a large quantity of red and gold coloured
foil wrapping was removed from the milk.
The manager of the dairy depot from which the milk had been purchased
stated that the bottle must have been passed by mistake on the part of one
of the inspectors or scrutineers at the daiiypremises.
The Committee recommended that legal proceedings be instituted and
the Dairy Company from whom the bottle of milk was purchased was fined £10
and ordered to pay £2. 5. 0. costs.
Pupae in Milk Bottle
A milk bottle containing about 20 pupae was brought to the department
by a resident in the borough.
The bottle containing milk had been delivered at noon one day and had
not been used until the following morning. When all the milk had been
used the complainant noticed insects adhering to the inside of the bottle
and both she and her two young children felt ill and were treated by their
doctor.
The Depot Manager of the Dairy Company responsible for delivery of
the milk, inspected the bottle and stated that the objects were "fruit
bugs. "
In this case the Committee were advised that there was insufficient
evidence for a successful prosecution and it was decided that a warning
letter be sent to the Dairy Company in question.
