Bateriological examinations have been carried out by the Public Health Laboratory at County Hall. The following is a statement of the specimens submitted to the Laboratory during 1960:-

MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS
27 medical examinations were carried out during the year in respect
of new appointments and persons on whom special reports were required in
connection with absence through sickness.
NATIONAL INSURANCE ACT 1946
In certain circumstances it is desirable that a person in contact
with, or a carrier of, any infectious disease, should be excluded from
employment.
If a person is so excluded he may claim sickness benefit on production
of a certificate signed by the Medical Officer of Health and one
such certificate was issued during this year in respect of a person who
was engaged in the handling of food.
NATIONAL ASSISTANCE ACT 1948
Section 47
Under this section of the National Assistance Act, 1948, as amended
by the National Assistance (Amendment) Act, 1951, the Council found it
necessary to apply to the Court for an Order for the removal to hospital
of a man, aged 85 years, who was living in insanitary conditions and was
in need of care and attention.
Section 50
Three burials were carried out under this Act at a total cost of
£43.10. 0. In one instance, part of the expenses was recovered from
death grant.
